Since the begin of the 2017/18 season, Dshamilja Kaiser has been engaged at the Theater Bonn. She appeared in the title role of the season’s opening production of “Penthesilea” by Othmar Schoeck, under the baton of Dirk Kaftan in a new staging by Peter Konwitschny. Since November 2017, the singer has been heard in Bonn as the title heroine in “Carmen” as well as in Dvořák’s “Stabat Mater”.
In February of 2018, the mezzo-soprano sang Adalgisa in “Norma” as a guest at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo.
To close the 2017/18 season, the singer will return to the Bregenz Festival as Lucrezia in Berthold Goldschmidt’s opera “Beatrice Cenci”.
In June of 2018 will come another career highlight: a debut in the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie as Brangäne in Frank Martin’s secular oratorio “Le vin herbé”.
From 2009 to 2017, Dshamilja Kaiser was a member of the permanent ensemble of the Graz Opera, singing roles such as Léonor de Guzman („La Favorite“), Orlofsky („Die Fledermaus“), Romeo („I Capuleti e i Montecchi“), Cherubino („Le nozze di Figaro“), Magdalene („Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“), Elisabetta („Maria Stuarda“), Hänsel („Hänsel und Gretel“), Arsamenes („Xerxes“), Brangäne („Tristan und Isolde“), and Carmen, among others. In addition to her steady tutelage with Patricia McCaffrey and Abbie Furmansky, she also works with artists such as KS Brigitte Fassbaender, KS Christa Ludwig, Peter Konwitschny, Marco Arturo Marelli, Vincent Boussard, Mariame Clement, Johannes Erath, Stephen Lawless, Dirk Kaftan, Antonino Fogliani, Stefan Soltesz, Johannes Fritzsch, Paolo Carigniani, Stefan Herheim, Konrad Junghänel and Julia Jones.
In the summer of 2016, she gave her much celebrated debut at the Bregenz Festival in the opera “Amleto” by Franco Faccio as La Regina Gertrude. A live DVD recording of this production was released in 2017 under the cMajor label.
In 2014 the mezzo-soprano gave her debut at the Vienna Volksoper as Carmen, where she also sang Dorabella in a new production of Cosí fan tutte in the 2014/15 season.
Dshamilja Kaiser has also been invited as a guest artist to the Vienna Festival at the Theater an der Wien as well as to the Klosterneuburg Festival.
Numerous concerts in and out of the country have rounded out her artistic activities.
Dshamilja Kaiser appeared for the first time with the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra in November of 2013 with “Les nuits d’été“ by H. Berlioz under the direction of Dirk Kaftan in the Vienna Musikverein, and in February of 2015 she sang with great critical success the role of Judith in a concertante performance of Bartok’s “Duke Bluebeard’s Castle” with the Giuseppe Verdi Symphonic Orchestra of Milan under Gaetano D’Espinosa.
Born in Wuppertal, Germany, Dshamilja Kaiser began her voice studies at the University of Music Detmold with Mechthild Böhme and Caroline Thomas. Even in the first years of her studies, she appeared in many university productions. While still a student, she was engaged to become a member of the permanent ensemble of the Theater Bielefeld, where she was able to gather experience in a large span of repertoire.
In the summer of 2006, she became a scholarship recipient of the Student Foundation of the German People and of the Richard Wagner Society and won the state competition for voice in Düsseldorf in 2005 and the Bergheimer Singer Award in 2008.
Dshamilja Kaiser was also awarded the honor of “Best Emerging Singer” as part of the “2015 Austrian Music Theater Awards”.
